Sawyer (full-time)
Dawson Co-op invites applications for the position of Sawyer (full-time) to join our team at our Home and Agro Centre, located in Dawson Creek, British Columbia.
The Sawyer is responsible for delivering precise lumber cutting services, custom builds, and value-added product preparation while maintaining a safe, organized, and customer-focused work environment.
Reporting to the Pro Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Come to work with a positive and professional approach and attitude
- Be dependable for all scheduled shifts
- Operate panel saws, table saws, and other cutting equipment to cut lumber, sheet goods, handi-panels and other goods accurately and safely
- Build items such as livestock shelters, sheds, dog houses, picnic tables, benches, etc.
- Accurately price materials and builds based on dimensions, grade, etc.
- Operate the point of sale (“POS”) terminal as required and to the expected standard
- Repurpose cull lumber into usable dimensions to maximize resale value
- Create cut lists for new build projects, identifying required lumber dimensions and associated hardware needs
- Coordinate the creation of new SKUs for short cut lengths and specialty products
- Merchandise finished products and bundled materials to optimize presentation and sales
- Perform accurate custom cuts for customers according to specifications
- Submit completed cut lists to the inventory team for system entry and tracking
- Collaborate with inventory team to ensure accurate product setup, pricing, and stock management
- Maintain lumber yard and cutting area cleanliness and organization
- Monitor product quality and remove damaged materials
- Perform routine equipment inspections and basic maintenance
- Stock shelves and replenish inventory as needed
- Work collaboratively with all departments to meet service and productivity goals
- Adhere to all Dawson Co-operative Union policies and procedures
- Adhere to all Dawson-Co-operative Union health and safety standards
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Experience in building supplies, lumber yard, or retail environment
- Experience operating cutting equipment and power tools
- Knowledge of building materials and measurements (imperial/metric)
- Forklift certification or willingness to obtain
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Strong safety-conscious mindset
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Experience working in sales or customer service is an asset
- Reliable and responsible
- Excellent customer service
- Ability to be friendly and outgoing
Compensation and Benefits
- Between $20.65 and $27.94 per hour, based on qualifications and experience
